OOVO | Vocal Straw magic
As a singing teacher and a singer myself I am always looking for new, innovative ways to warm up the voice easily and develop a better singing technique. The voice can be used for limited time (2 to 3 hours) and it is not recommended to practice for hours till the voice is totally exhausted. Vocal fatigue at the end of your singing session is not your "best friend".
One day I was scrolling over Instagram stories and my attention was caught by one live stream of Julie Fuchs (if you don't know who she is, definitely check her out. She won 2nd prize in "Operalia" in 2013). She was speaking in French and showing some straw exercises. I didn't understand a word (French is not my strong point and I am working on it) and I asked her to translate the video if possible. She made a special one in English where she explained her warmup routine including a straw before vocalising.
I've heard before about warming up with a straw in a glass of water, but have never seen a method like this. I decided to give it a go for a couple of days before reaching a verdict. Let me tell you... I was blown away on my second day of practice when the voice was so easily ready to do technical exercises so this is now part of my daily warmup routine.
I tried to reuse a plastic straw in order to be environmentally friendly and not using a new one every single time, but it became impossible, so I started looking for metal straws. I found this amazing website where you can purchase specially made metal straws for vocalists that are not extremely big and long and can easily fit in your pocket or wear it as a classy necklace:
I bought their Sing Ring because I wanted to experiment with the different resistance levels the tool offers.
I loved it so much that I decided to ask to become an ambassador of the brand. I usually never do this if I am not sure about the quality of the product.
I swear by this tool!
So here it is! You can use the code #SINGBETTER and receive 10% discount on your order.
Enjoy!
